Alto Adventure, meet the writer

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Hey there, that would be me! Thanks for checking out my blog. I decided to make this mostly as a journal for myself to look back on, but I also want to share my stoke with the rest of the community. Here you'll find detailed reports and stories from my trips, as well as some beta for planning your own. Good luck out there!

Now, about me. My name is Braxton Adams, and I am a self-proclaimed adventure enthusiast, weekend warrior, climber, ultra-runner, canyoneer, guide, nomad, granola, and whatever else you'd call people like me. Point is, I'm a big lover of type 2 fun in the outdoors. In 2017 I moved to Southern Utah and quickly discovered how much I just love being outside. It felt like a whole world was opened up to me that I didn't even know existed before. I started climbing, rappelling, backpacking, and seeking out any sort of adventure that I could find! This led to me planning trips for myself and my friends, and eventually evolved into bigger and better, more "badass" pursuits. If you were to ask my family or friends what I'm doing on any given weekend, they'd probably say something along the lines of, "oh he's probably hanging off of a rope somewhere again".

I graduated from SUU with my bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2022, and I now work as the Adventure Director for a residential treatment center near St. George UT. I plan all of the experiential/adventure activities and trips for the clients there, so even when I'm at work I'm doing what I love. Sometimes I wonder why I do the things I do, and frankly, I don't know how to put it into words. Maybe it's the satisfaction I get from doing hard things, maybe it's just a deep love for the beauty of the outdoors, or maybe it's that deep, almost spiritual feeling that I get when I'm standing on top of a mountain or below a waterfall and suddenly everything in life just makes sense. Maybe it's some combination of all three. Regardless, I hope you enjoy reading about my adventures, and if you don't, that's okay too!
